How do I reverse GST/HST out of a total?

Switch the calculator to ‘Remove tax’, pick your province, and enter the tax-included total. It shows the pre-tax amount and the GST/HST that was inside it. For example, $113 in Ontario is $100 plus $13 HST.

GST is 5% in Alberta, BC, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Quebec and the three territories. HST is 13% in Ontario, 14% in Nova Scotia, and 15% in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island. Rates are verified against canada.ca and cited on the page.

Do I need to add PST or QST?

Only BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec charge a separate provincial sales tax (PST/RST/QST) on top of GST, and it applies only to taxable supplies — many professional services are exempt. It is off by default; tick the box to include it.
